Sucks! I just realized that I spend 90 minutes daily in a train commuting. 90 MINUTES – That’s like 1 ½ hrs!!! But folks, please realize that’s not my entire commute. Before the train ride, I actually have to drive 45 minutes in order to “get” to the train station. Commuting sucks. I completely took for granted the time where I lived in a small town and I could get ANYWHERE I WANTED in 15 minutes or less.
What do I do with my “train time” you are probably asking… Well, I actually read everyday. I wish I can be like those people in the train who sit down and automatically fall sleep. Almost robotic. I could not do it. Not because I’m not tired (because I am), but because the thought of laying my head on a window or wall that #1 – God knows when was the last time that it was cleaned and disinfected, and #2 I don’t wanna put my clean head of hair (I wash it every single day) where someone else may have put their nasty noggin’ - Can you say: Gross!!!!
I could be doing more productive things with my “train life”. I could be writing my blog. Or better yet, plotting the story of a book I have been wanting to write for years now. I could be studying stock investing. But I choose to read. And these are not life changing type of books, either. I prefer to read fiction – mystery novels, or chick lit. Nothing too deep. Deep = boring, and boring may means that I could inadvertently fall sleep… Oh, poop!!! That would be a disaster! (for my hair)

I totally know what you’re talking about! I take the train to work, too, and including driving to/from the train station, my commute is 3 hours total. It’s insane, but that’s the price I pay for living where I live, working where I work, and saving money on gas. I’ve started downloading books onto my Treo from the library (free to download) and reading them on the train, but now I will be terrified of falling asleep while reading because you just reminded me of the general funk that coats every surface on that train. Yuck. Thanks!!!

Maybe you should wear a shower cap on your ride to work…just in case! It would give everybody else on the train something to talk about and you’d be safe in case of a boring chapter!
